Eagles edge rusher tapped by PFF as bounce-back candidate for 2025
The Eagles’ offseason has been as eventful as ever, but if there’s one storyline flying a bit under the radar, it’s the potential redemption arc of defensive end Bryce Huff.
After a rocky first season in Philadelphia, Pro Football Focus has singled out Huff as the team’s top “bounce-back” candidate for 2025 — a glimmer of hope that could pay huge dividends for the Eagles’ revamped defensive front.
Eagles’ Big Gamble on Bryce Huff
When the Eagles inked Huff to a three-year, $51.1 million deal last offseason, expectations were sky-high. Howie Roseman doesn’t hand out contracts like that to just anybody. Huff was meant to be the guy to plug the hole left by Haason Reddick, but that’s not how 2024 played out. He lost his starting job by Week 9, his pass-rush win rate tanked, and he was basically a non-factor during the Birds’ Super Bowl run.
But here’s the thing: the Eagles didn’t make that investment on a whim. Huff is just 27 and has shown he can bring the heat off the edge when he’s on his game. PFF’s Dalton Wasserman even pointed out that with Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham both gone this offseason, there’s a prime opportunity for Huff to prove he’s worth every penny of that massive deal.
The Eagles Need Huff to Step Up
There’s no sugarcoating it — Huff’s debut in Philly was a disappointment. But 2025 is shaping up as his shot at redemption. If he can return to the form he showed with the Jets, the Eagles’ defense could weather the storm of losing so many key edge rushers. The raw talent is there, and if Huff can figure out how to make it click in Sean Desai’s system, he could end up being the unsung hero of the Birds’ front seven this year.
So here’s to hoping PFF is onto something. The Eagles are banking on Bryce Huff to deliver. If he does, it’ll be one of those quiet offseason moves that ends up paying massive dividends come January.
