Nick Wright shockingly defends Jalen Hurts’ honor in breakdown of Chris Simms’ QB rankings

It’s not every day we get to see Nick Wright step up and defend Jalen Hurts’ honor, so when it happens, you’ve got to give credit where it’s due.

On Monday, Chris Simms dropped his annual quarterback rankings — his yearly tradition of stirring the pot with takes no one asked for. For some reason, people still care about what Simms thinks when it comes to football, especially quarterbacks. I don’t get it, but here we are.

Simms ranked Hurts at No. 10. Behind Baker Mayfield. And even worse — behind Justin Herbert. Absolutely criminal.

Naturally, Nick Wright wasn’t having it. He tore into Simms for the nonsense, called him out on national television, and embarrassed him the way he deserved.

In short, Nick Wright says Chris Simms’ list is driven entirely by ego — that he trusts his own evaluation more than what’s actually happening on the field. And he’s right. In what world is Justin Herbert a better quarterback than Jalen Hurts? There isn’t a single stat that backs that up.

Simms is just an arm talent kind of guy. What I mean is, he gets off watching someone throw a football hard and far. And honestly, I can’t even blame him — that kind of thing tickles my fancy too. But you know what really gets me going? Showing up when it matters and playing winning football. We’ve seen enough to know Jalen Hurts is a certified big-time player. And we’ve also seen enough to say Justin Herbert is a straight-up choke artist.

In two postseason games, Herbert has thrown two touchdowns to four interceptions with a QB rating of 60.7. Those are terrible numbers. Hurts, on the other hand, has played in nine playoff games, thrown 10 touchdowns to just three picks, and posted a 95.4 QB rating. Oh, and let’s not forget the two Super Bowl appearances — he should’ve been MVP in both.

Chris Simms has built his brand by pumping out ridiculous QB rankings every year. He figured out the algorithm — congrats, man. It’s one of the easiest things to game in sports media.

So shoutout to Nick Wright for finally calling him out on the bullshit. Someone had to say it.
