Eagles may have a surprise WR3 on their hands with this former second-round pick
The Eagles are absolutely loaded on offense heading into 2025. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are one of the best wide receiver duos in football, Jalen Hurts is still Jalen Hurts, and Saquon Barkley is the best RB in the game. But if there was one question mark still lingering, it was at WR3. That job was expected to go to Jahan Dotson without much debate.
Not so fast.
Enter Terrace Marshall. The former second-round pick is quietly — and maybe not so quietly — making a legit push for that WR3 role after an impressive showing at the Eagles’ mandatory minicamp. According to multiple reports, Marshall was out there making plays against starting-caliber corners like Cooper DeJean and Adoree Jackson. That’s not nothing.
Eagles Giving Terrace Marshall a Fresh Start
Marshall’s NFL career hasn’t exactly gone according to plan so far. After getting drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2021, he spent three seasons playing for some truly miserable teams, putting up modest numbers at best. His best season came in 2022 when he posted 28 catches for 490 yards and his lone NFL touchdown. After getting cut by Carolina, Marshall bounced around, eventually landing with the Raiders last season before signing a one-year deal with the Eagles this past April.
Sometimes, all a guy needs is a change of scenery. And honestly, Philly might be the perfect spot for Marshall to finally hit his stride.
Eagles Hoping to Tap Into Marshall’s LSU Pedigree
What makes Marshall intriguing isn’t just the size (6’2”, 205 lbs), speed, and athleticism — it’s the pedigree. This dude lined up alongside Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson on that loaded 2019 LSU national championship squad, catching passes from Joe Burrow. Even as the third option in that offense, Marshall still racked up 671 yards and 13 touchdowns. That LSU team was absurd, and Marshall held his own in that group.
NFL scouts saw that upside when he came out, but questioned whether he’d put it all together at the next level. To this point, it hasn’t happened. But in Philly? With Hurts throwing him the ball? With defenses having to worry about Brown, Smith, Barkley, and Dallas Goedert? The opportunity is sitting right there for him.
Eagles WR3 Battle Heating Up
Of course, Jahan Dotson isn’t going to just hand the job over. After a brutal regular season in 2024, Dotson came alive in the playoffs, finally finding the end zone in the Wild Card Round and playing a key role in the Eagles’ Super Bowl run. He’s got momentum, and this competition is far from over.
But Terrace Marshall is officially in the mix now. And if he keeps making plays like he did at minicamp, the Eagles may have stumbled into some sneaky-good depth at wide receiver.
