Phillies fan hit by home run got the ball that hit her in the face
I’m sure you’re all familiar with Gayle, the ill-fated Phillies fan that took a Max Kepler home run right to the face. We were graced with an update on her condition yesterday, but walked away dissatisfied with the fact that she didn’t even get to take home the ball that did her in.
Well, fret not, friends. Gayle is now in possession of the home run ball.
The two Phillies fans that were initially the villains of the story ended up doing the right thing:
@katyactually UPDATE! On ball who hit my friend’s mom at the Phillies Game #fyp #foryou #foryoupage #fypシ゚ #phillies #baseball #baseballboys #sports #sporty #mlb ♬ original sound – KatyActually
Now this is something I love to see. One of the guys stepped up and delivered the ball to Katy’s work so she could pass it on to Gayle. All is right in the world.
Sure, it did take some public shaming on social media to make this happen, but that’s okay. The Mobilization of Shame is a very powerful thing, with relevance in areas ranging from interpersonal relationships and international politics. Shame is a good thing.
Also it’s pretty funny that they basically told Katy that Gayle’s friend was extremely rude to them. I don’t blame her for being rattled after Max Kepler gave her friend’s skull the full Tehran experience, but I can totally see why they’d be less than willing to work with her in that moment.
As someone who’s been following this story since ball met skull, this is the ending I hoped for. Now we can let this go and let Gayle heal up so she can join her fellow Phillies fans at The Bank.
