Eagles getting hit with a worst-case scenario before season even starts (on paper, at least)

Eagles fans can smell another Super Bowl run from a mile away. The roster is stacked, the vibes are high, and the team is already hard at work getting ready for the 2025 season. But apparently, that’s not enough for some analysts, who are already drawing up disaster blueprints for 2025 — because, of course they are.

In a new piece from Bleacher Report, Alex Ballentine outlined the worst-case scenario for every NFL team, and when it came to the Eagles, it was all about one man: Saquon Barkley.

Eagles’ “Doomsday” Outlook Starts With a Barkley Breakdown

According to Ballentine, if Barkley breaks down physically this season, it could send the Eagles spiraling. He argues that Philly is “putting quite a bit into the Barkley basket,” and if that basket ends up cracked, the offense could become one-dimensional fast. Hurts would be forced to carry too much of the load.

It’s not a totally wild take. Barkley does have a history of injuries, and yes, he had a massive workload in 2024. But this isn’t New York anymore. Plus, with AJ Dillon added behind him, the Eagles aren’t exactly walking into the season without backup.

Eagles Are Built To Withstand A Few Hits

Let’s not act like this team doesn’t have depth. The offensive line, aside from Mekhi Becton leaving in free agency, is pretty much intact. You’ve still got A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, and Jahan Dotson catching passes. This isn’t a squad that goes down with one injury. If Barkley goes down, yeah it hurts — but it’s not some apocalyptic scenario that ends the season.

Also, let’s not overlook Kevin Patullo, now running the offense. If Nick Sirianni believes in him, then he’ll have to prove it early if the going gets tough. But again, that’s a big if — and a premature one at that.

Let’s Chill Until Training Camp

Bottom line: It’s June. People are bored. No games, no training camp, no real headlines. So you get stuff like this — manufactured doom for a team that’s arguably in better shape than anyone else heading into the 2025 season.

Let them talk. We’ll see who’s still standing when it actually matters. Until then, the Eagles are fine. Better than fine, actually.

Just keep Barkley upright and keep receipts.
