Trash Strike Day 4 Welcome America

TRASH STRIKE DAY 4: LL Cool J bails on America, zero momentum on the Parker Piles

TRASH STRIKE DAY 4 – Well, Happy 4th of July, Philly. The fireworks aren’t even lit yet and this city is already in flames, metaphorically, politically, and quite possibly soon literally if the Parker Piles keep growing.

4th of July events in Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Delaware

LL Cool J was supposed to headline the big Wawa Welcome America concert on the Parkway tonight.

Keyword: was...

He pulled out this morning, citing the ongoing DC33 strike as the reason. Can you blame him? You think Ladies Love Cool J is about to step over leaking trash juice and union pickets just to rap for a crowd that’s inhaling smoke from a dumpster fire? No shot.

Philly is a mess after Day 1 of The Great Philly Trash Strike, so TLL decided to start it’s own trash removal company

TRASH STRIKE DAY 3: We have officially entered the Parker Piles Era with no end in sight

Welcome to Day 4 of the Great Philly Trash Strike, with no sanitation, no street cleaning, zero momentum, and one increasingly roasted mayor.

How much longer can Mayor Cherelle Parker play chicken with the city?

This has officially moved past trash collection. We’re talking optics now and let me tell you, they are absolutely brutal. It’s early, fireworks don’t even start until 9:30 pm tonight but the Benjamin Franklin Parkway is a ghost town.

I’m seeing reports of rats the size of toddlers, wearing American flag bandanas, are doing their own 4th of July bar crawls through Northern Liberties.

Mayor Parker is in hiding, stuck behind City Hall coordinators who seem better at cashing paychecks than handling strategy.

I really don’t understand how hard it is to simply say “we screwed up.” Everyone in charge seems to be perfectly content with riding this into their political graves.

Mayor Parker is burning through political capital like it’s a lithium battery in a SEPTA bus.

The Center City Sixers arena debacle was Strike One. Refusing to pay the lowest-paid union in the city? That’s Strike Two. If LL Cool J pulling out on the Fourth of July isn’t Strike Three, I don’t know what is.

Hell, even Jim Kenney got re-elected and he looked like he was trying to get fired every single day. The last Philly mayor who didn’t get two terms left voluntarily in 1984. If this keeps up, Cherelle Parker might be the first one voted out in four decades.

What’s it going to take to end The Great Philly Trash Strike?

Does Jazmine Sullivan have to bail too? Does the Phanatic have to start picketing outside City Hall? Do we need Gritty to throw a trash bag at a press conference?

Whatever the answer may be, the current strategy ain’t working.

The people are united. The unions are dug in. The streets are filthy. The Parkway concert is dead and Mayor Parker’s administration is starting to look like a short-term lease with a rats clause.

Do the deal. Clean the city. If not, be prepared to watch it all go down in flames while the rest of us sit back and write about it on the internet.
