Eagles’ Nick Sirianni calls BS on the anti-Jalen Hurts propaganda
Every offseason, the same tired storylines about the Eagles get recycled by the national sports media. One of the greatest hits this summer? That Jalen Hurts was “just along for the ride” during the Eagles’ Super Bowl run last season. A take so dumb it practically disqualifies you from ever speaking about football again.
Thankfully, Nick Sirianni isn’t letting that narrative slide.
In an interview with ESPN’s Tim McManus, the Eagles’ head coach torched the idea that Hurts wasn’t central to the team’s success.
“I think that’s bullshit,” Sirianni said. “He plays the most important position in all of sports… and what I admire about him is his selflessness of doing anything we need to do to win.”
That’s a coach defending his quarterback the way a real leader should.
Eagles QB Jalen Hurts Wasn’t Carried — He Carried When It Counted
Yes, the Eagles leaned into the run game last season. Saquon Barkley had over 2,000 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. The offense evolved midseason. That’s what good teams do. But let’s not forget what happened when the lights were brightest.
Super Bowl LIX? Hurts completed 77% of his passes, scored three touchdowns, and walked away with MVP honors.
This wasn’t Trent Dilfer handing the ball off 40 times. This was Jalen Hurts making big-time plays in big-time moments. And still, you’ve got anonymous Twitter accounts and lazy national pundits acting like he’s playing Pop Warner behind an all-star team. Enough already.
The Eagles Win Because They’re Built Like a Team — But Hurts Is the Engine
Sirianni nailed it: no great quarterback does it alone. Brady had Gronk. Mahomes has Kelce. Steve Young had Jerry Rice. This is football, not tennis.
Hurts just happens to be surrounded by talent, and the Eagles front office has done their job in building around him. That doesn’t diminish Hurts’ value. It amplifies it. He’s the leader, the tone-setter, and the guy everyone in that locker room follows.
This whole “he’s just along for the ride” narrative? It’s pure garbage. It says more about the people pushing it than it does about Hurts. They’re mad their own teams passed on him. They’re mad the Eagles keep winning. They’re mad he’s everything their QB isn’t.
Sirianni didn’t have to say anything. But he did and every word rang true. The Eagles have a quarterback who leads with poise, wins under pressure, and doesn’t flinch when the vultures start circling.
So if you’re one of those clowns downplaying Jalen Hurts, go ahead and keep tweeting from the couch. The Eagles are back in camp, gearing up for another run — and the guy under center is ready to shut you up all over again.
