Report: Eagles may only get one year out of former Giants pass rusher
The Eagles made a flurry of defensive additions this offseason, but one name flying under the radar could end up being the most impactful — and the most temporary. That would be former Giants edge rusher Azeez Ojulari, a guy who might just ball out in midnight green… before cashing in somewhere else.
According to FanSided’s Richard Louis, Ojulari is a prime candidate to “rebuild his value in Philadelphia” and follow the Mekhi Becton path: play one good year, look great doing it, and then walk for a bag of free agent money the Eagles won’t be able (or willing) to match.
And honestly? That’s the game.
Eagles Are Loaded Up Front—Ojulari Can Eat
The former second-round pick has flashed real pass-rushing juice when healthy. He had six sacks in 11 games last year, 5.5 in 2022, and eight his rookie season. The problem’s never been talent — it’s durability and consistency. But drop him next to guys like Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith, and suddenly he’s not the focus of protection schemes. He’s the beneficiary.
The Eagles lost some bodies up front this offseason, which means the reps are there. Ojulari’s got a clean runway to become a rotational menace. If he takes advantage, Philly could have themselves a short-term star who delivers on Sundays, then walks away in March with a bidding war behind him.
The Eagles Can Afford a One-Year Rental
Let’s be real: the Eagles don’t need long-term commitments at every spot. They need production. Ojulari on a one-year prove-it deal is perfect. If he works out, they got a discount year of solid pass rush. If he walks? They take the comp pick and reload like they always do.
Richard Louis put it best: “NFL teams are always looking for pass rushers, and Ojulari will have the golden opportunity to take full advantage of what’s in front of him.”
So yeah, he might be one-and-done in Philly. But if he gives them 8–10 sacks and makes a few game-altering plays in the playoffs, no one’s complaining. That’s the cost of doing business in a contending window.
Just ask Howie.
