Highly Questionable: Dave Dombrowski outlines Phillies trade deadline plans after Jhoan Duran addition

Phillies GM “Sleepy Dave” Dombrowski finally woke up before the trade deadline, dealing top prospects Mick Abel and Eduardo Tait to the Twins for flamethrower Jhoan Duran. Philly fans are still hungry for more deadline deals, so his statement after the trade definitely raised some eyebrows.

Dombrowski told the media that the Phillies are no longer searching for bullpen additions and will shift their focus to an outfielder:

God dammit, Dave. You were so close.

Jose Alvarado is suspended for the playoffs, and we have the prospect pool necessary to add another reliever and a competent outfield bat. It’s like he forgot the most important question ever posed to the American people.

Why not both, Davey?? I know you just woke up from your seasons-long slumber to make potentially the biggest deadline trade this franchise has ever seen, but it’s not bedtime yet, buddy.

Don’t get me wrong, if the market truly isn’t there to do both, outfield is most certainly the priority. But don’t sit there and tell me we don’t have the prospect pool to make MLB teams part ways with valuable pieces.

Who the hell cares about prospects, anyway? Scott Kingery, my sweet golden boy, signed to a major league deal and flamed out. This has happened to prospects every year, multiple times a year, for as long as

If the timeline were different, I’d be for standing pat, but Bryce Harper signed a 13-year deal six years ago. Kyle Schwarber is a free agent at the end of the year. Trea Turner is here until he’s in his forties.

The Phillies need to win now. I don’t give a shit about prospects, we’ll draft more next year. Andrew Painter is great, but if he goes out the door for Steven Kwan or Jarren Duran, that’s fine by me.

Maybe there’s someone the Phillies have their eye on to slot into the bullpen heading into the home stretch, but who knows? David Robertson seems to be pitching well in the minors, but he’s a 40-year-old guy. Having your postseason bullpen hinge on him is not exactly an airtight strategy.

Maybe I’m wrong, but we’ll see. I’m just saying, Dave better go get one hell of an outfielder. Luis Robert certainly wouldn’t displease me.
