Eagles might need to fast-track Jakorian Bennett after CB2 disaster vs. Bengals
The Eagles might have a bigger cornerback problem than anyone wanted to admit.
Thursday night against the Bengals was supposed to be another preseason tune-up, but instead it turned into a flashing red warning sign that CB2 is still wide open — and not in a good way.
Kelee Ringo and Adoree’ Jackson, the two guys battling for that spot opposite Quinyon Mitchell, both got cooked. Joe Burrow carved them up, going 9-for-10 for 123 yards and two touchdowns to Ja’Marr Chase. And yeah, Chase can make anyone look bad, but this was ugly. Jackson got beat badly on a simple out route, Ringo got lost down the sideline, then completely whiffed on a tackle that turned a short catch into a Chase touchdown. Later, both of them gave up first downs to Charlie Jones — from Jake Browning, no less.
The Eagles have a CB2 problem
The Eagles didn’t prep for this game, and sure, it’s still August. But here’s the thing: if either Ringo or Jackson had seized that CB2 job by now, Howie Roseman probably doesn’t trade for Jakorian Bennett on Monday. And after last night? It wouldn’t be shocking if Bennett is suddenly running with the ones at practice this week.
The Eagles can’t afford to let CB2 be a revolving door when the season starts. If Ringo and Jackson can’t find some consistency — and fast — the front office might have to make another move, or just see if Bennett is ready to swim in the deep end earlier than expected.
