Jalen Hurts AFC Dominance

Quick Reminder: Jalen Hurts has dominated the AFC since 2022

When people start debating the best quarterbacks in the NFL right now, it’s always the same names first. Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow are constantly mentioned, but if you’re leaving Jalen Hurts out of that conversation, you’re either not paying attention or you’ve got an agenda.

Jalen Hurts has already stacked a resume that most QBs would kill for.

Hurts has two Pro Bowls, a league MVP finalist nod in 2022, a Super Bowl championship, and a Super Bowl MVP. He’s the first Eagles QB to make it to two Super Bowls, and the first since John Elway in 1998 to win one after losing in his first trip.

Not bad for a guy who was drafted as an “insurance policy.” >>

In honor of the Philadelphia Eagles beating the Cincinnati Bengals last night in their preseason opener, it felt like the perfect time to remind everyone how badly Hurts has been eating the AFC alive for the last three years.

He’s 14-1 in regular-season games against AFC teams since 2022. The only blemish was a weird loss to Zach Wilson and the Jets in October 2023.

Jalen Hurts vs. AFC Since 2022

  • Record: 14-1
  • Touchdowns: 40
  • Turnovers: 13
  • Total Yards/Game: 273.2
  • Passer Rating: 106.7

Jalen Hurts has beaten Mahomes, Lamar, Allen, and Burrow head-to-head over that stretch. Yet somehow, analysts keep wondering if Hurts could “hack it” in the AFC. Cam Newton even went on record asking what the NFC’s “must-see TV” is compared to Mahomes vs. Allen or Lamar.

It’s like people are openly ignoring the fact that Hurts showed up to the Super Bowl, twice, and took Mahomes to the wire both times.

Meanwhile, Josh Allen is 0-4 against Mahomes in the playoffs, Lamar’s MVP seasons have still ended short of a ring, Burrow hasn’t been back to the big game since his first trip, and Justin Herbert’s playoff win total is still stuck at zero.

Jalen Hurts is the only QB drafted after Mahomes to win a Super Bowl and when the lights are brightest, he delivers.

Hurts in Two Super Bowls vs. Kansas City:

  • Completion %: 73 (44-for-60)
  • Passing Yards: 525
  • Rushing Yards: 142
  • Total TDs: 7
  • Passer Rating: 109.4

If Lamar’s 24-2 career record against the NFC is treated like a badge of honor, Hurts’ near-perfect mark against the AFC deserves the same love. People can keep saying it’s the Eagles’ stacked roster propping him up, but when it’s time to play the best in the league, Hurts keeps proving he belongs in that top-tier conversation. Until the AFC figures out how to slow him down, they might just keep finding out the hard way.

Good luck stopping this guy…
