Nick Foles gets honest about the 2018 Eagles vs. now

Eagles fans, not sure if you’re aware or not but our guy Nick Foles just recently started a podcast of his own. And before you say anything else but the podcasting space being oversaturated, just remember that we have to put up with Philly sports talk radio.

So, whenever a former Eagle decides to venture off into this space, I am all for it. Unless it’s Darius Slay of course, who used it as a platform to gas up his stats even after an Eagles loss. But, maybe I should forgive him as that really on grinded my gears during that disaster of a 2023 season. I’ve moved on from it.

Anyhow, Nick Foles addressed a lot of Eagles related things on the pod, but most notably what makes this current Birds squad different from the one in 2018.

Nick Foles on the Eagles quest for a repeat

“They were way more dangerous than we were”.

Set talent to the side, which it’s quite clear this Eagles team has more talent. But the biggest thing is there are no distractions or any potential locker room drama.

That quarterback room in 2018 was a very awkward one with Carson Wentz battling back from an injury and the offense constantly shifting between he and Nick Foles. It was just never going to work out that year.

And shoutout to Foles for of course, handling the entire thing with class as he always does.

The Nick Foles “What-If”

The whispers were always there: Carson Wentz wasn’t exactly beloved in that locker room. And let’s be real—the biggest X-factor any quarterback can bring isn’t just the arm talent, it’s leadership. That’s something Jalen Hurts has in spades, and something Nick Foles had when the city needed it most. The locker room rallied around Foles, and we watched one of the wildest playoff runs in NFL history unfold.

Back in 2018, I was riding the Wentz MVP hype train just like everyone else, but imagine if the Eagles flipped him for a massive haul and rolled with Foles as QB1? That alternate timeline might’ve actually worked out better.

Here’s the thing: I’ll always feel like Nick Foles got robbed. Instead of being remembered as a legitimate franchise quarterback, he gets thrown into the “one-hit wonder” bucket—like his Super Bowl run was some random fluke. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

Foles was a damn good quarterback. His biggest weakness was mobility, and outside of Philly he was stuck behind some of the worst offensive lines in football. You put him in Philly or a place like it for his whole career, with protection and stability? Whew.

But, I don’t want to play that game

Who knows if we get Jalen Hurts, and who knows what else happens. It all worked out perfectly for us. And I wouldn’t change a damn thing.

And at the end of the day, Nick Foles has a statue for a reason. He will forever be a Philadelphia legend. Who really gives a damn what everyone else thinks.

I mean to be fair, he still lives rent free in the GOAT’s head. So that’s certainly something.
