Avery Johnson’s brother double-fisted Guinness before his brawl with his father

So let me start with this — Saturday afternoon I was dialed into the Avery Johnson experience or Kansas State vs. Iowa State because I threw some money on the Wildcats’ moneyline. Not my brightest moment. Week 1 of college football, and I’m already in the hole at 0-1. Off to a hot start, right?

What I didn’t expect was that the game itself wouldn’t even be the wildest part of the day. Nope. That honor went to Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson’s family, who decided to turn the Aer Lingus College Football Classic into a UFC undercard fight

Let’s be real here: the Avery Johnson experience is exactly that — an experience. He’s got all the tools to be electric, but he also makes decisions on the field that leave you wondering if he’s playing quarterback or just mashing random buttons on Madden.

And apparently, the chaos doesn’t stop on the field. Because while Avery was coming up short against Iowa State in a 24-21 loss, his brother and father were throwing haymakers outside the stadium in Dublin.

Honestly though, if you’re gonna throw hands, Dublin’s probably the spot. That’s at least a story you can tell for life, brought to you by Guinness stout.

Here’s where things get even funnier: a British content creator known as American TJ snagged Avery’s brother for an interview during the fourth quarter. Anthony was in good spirits, drinking what sure looked like Guinness, and picking Avery over every other QB in college football.

By the end of the game, those “good spirits” clearly turned into something else. I’m not saying Guinness caused the fight, but let’s just say the evidence is foamy, dark, and served in a cup with a Guinness logo plastered on the side.

The Aftermath

To their credit, Mark and Anthony released a joint statement apologizing for the fiasco:

“We sincerely apologize for our actions following yesterday’s football game in Ireland. Senseless bickering escalated into an unnecessary fight. We have resolved our differences and take full responsibility for our actions. We regret this incident, have learned from it, and are committed to ensuring it doesn’t happen again.”

Which is great, but I’ll be real — that image of Avery’s dad pinning his own son to the ground after a three-point loss is going to live on Twitter forever.
