Disgusting Behavior: Phillies-Mets delay game for nearly 20 minutes because of… microphones that have been there since 2017
Only in Queens. Monday night’s Phillies-Mets opener got put on pause for nearly 20 minutes, and not because of rain, not because of a fight, not even because of a rat the size of a golden retriever running across the field.
Nope. It was microphones.
After Alec Bohm grounded into a double play in the fifth, he pointed out a pair of parabolic mics sitting on either side of the batter’s eye in center field.
Which, real rich, considering Bohm’s groundout did more damage to the Phillies than those microphones ever could.
Even funnier (and by funnier, I mean absolutely disgusting) is those exact mics have been there since 2017. Suddenly they’re a problem now? Please.

Phillies smacked around by Mets, Cristopher Sánchez tagged for season-high 6 runs in 13-3 Loss
The umps huddled up, fans started booing, and the Mets organization took nearly 20 minutes to have them removed. Twenty. Minutes. To move two microphones. Don’t get it twisted, I don’t care about the Mets at all but this is just a horrendous look for them.
And the timing made it even worse, because the Phillies got absolutely shelled last night in Queens. Cristopher Sánchez gave up season highs in runs and hits, the bullpen folded, and the Phils went down 13-3 in a game that felt over before the seventh-inning stretch.
Mics or no mics, this one was ugly. Gross all the way around.
