Trea Turner Walk Off Braves

Trea Turner puts the glove where his bat is, walks off the Braves in style

For two seasons, Trea Turner was the shortstop every opposing lineup wanted the ball hit to. Errors, bad reads, rushed throws, you name it, he botched it.

That narrative has changed in 2025. Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park, Tra Turner put together one of his best all-around games in a Phillies uniform, and it was a defensive showcase that kept the Braves off the board, along with a two-run, walk-off single in the 10th inning to beat Atlanta 3-2.

The win marked the Phils’ third straight, stretched their NL East lead to six games over the Mets, and reminded everyone that Turner isn’t just a leadoff weapon anymore, he’s become a defensive difference-maker.

Defensive Redemption

Turner didn’t waste any time proving it. In the second, he ranged deep to his right to gun down Michael Harris II. In the third, he went full Derek Jeter with a leaping throw across the diamond, then followed it with a deep-grass snag and rope to retire Matt Olson flat-footed. In the fourth, he smoothly turned a 6-3 double play to kill another Atlanta rally.

Yes. Trea Turner. The same shortstop who led MLB in defensive mistakes from 2023–24 now has 14 Outs Above Average, ranking fourth among all shortstops, with elite marks both to his right and left.

The Bat Finishes the Job

Of course, Turner wasn’t just a glove. He finished 3-for-5 with his seventh career walk-off knock, a two-run single in the 10th that sent CBP into chaos. He now leads the NL in hits (168), is tracking for Philly’s first 200-hit season since Jimmy Rollins in 2007, and is on pace for 40 steals and 100+ runs scored.

Turner was already playing like an MVP candidate at the plate. Now his defense has caught up. On nights like that, when he’s shutting down rallies in the field and ending games with the bat, Trea Turner looks unstoppable.
