Report: Micah Parsons wanted the Eagles, Jerry wouldn’t let it happen
The Cowboys may have shipped Micah Parsons to Green Bay, but make no mistake, Parsons wanted Philly. According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Eagles were one of just two teams he had in mind when it became clear his relationship with Dallas was dead in the water.
Here’s the money quote from Russini:
“Once Micah Parsons realized Dallas wasn’t moving off its offer — a five-year deal at $40.5 million APY with just one year guaranteed and a heavily backloaded structure — he started to face the reality that his days in Dallas were coming to an end. During the entire process, Dallas owner Jerry Jones never talked with agent David Mulugheta, one of the most powerful agents in the sport, despite Parsons’ repeated requests. In the final days, he again asked the Cowboys to negotiate with Mulugheta. Dallas’ answer? Take it or leave it.”
It was already over. Micah Parsons knew it. Jerry knew it. And the rest of us knew it once the Cowboys dug their heels in.
Micah Parsons Had Philly on His Mind
Russini went on to report that when the breakup became official, Parsons had two destinations in mind: the Packers and the Eagles. Green Bay appealed for its small-town feel, reminding him of his Penn State days in State College. But Philly? That was the obvious choice.
Philadelphia is just a short ride from his hometown of Harrisburg. Add in the chance to reunite with former Penn State teammate Saquon Barkley, not to mention the Super Bowl buzz still humming through the city, and the fit was perfect.
The Eagles reportedly made a “strong play” to get Parsons, and honestly, with all the draft capital Howie Roseman has on hand, they probably could have beaten any offer. The problem? Dallas was never going to let their star defender stay in the NFC East, no matter the return.
Jerry’s Fear Came True
Parsons has been spotted before repping Philly gear, and his ties to Pennsylvania are obvious. Imagine him lining up next to Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis with Nolan Smith screaming off the edge? That’s every quarterback’s nightmare and Jerry Jones’ personal doomsday scenario.
So instead, Parsons is now a Packer. And sure, the Eagles move on, but this is one of those “what ifs” that lingers. What if Jerry wasn’t so stubborn? What if Philly actually landed Parsons?
This Story Isn’t Over Yet
For now, the dream is dead. Dallas shipped him north, and the Eagles carry on with one of the best rosters in football. But make no mistake, Micah Parsons wanted Philly.
And if he ever becomes available again? The door is wide open for a homecoming.
