Phillies promote Aidan Miller to Triple-A Lehigh Valley

The Phillies are moving top infield prospect Aidan Miller up to Lehigh Valley. The 20-year-old has been one of the hottest hitters in the system, and this promotion couldn’t come at a more interesting time.

Otto López homers twice for the Fish, Phillies comeback falls short in 5-4 loss to Miami

Aidan Miller’s overall line with Reading has been solid. He’s posted a .259 average, 13 homers, 41 RBI, and an absurd 52 stolen bases. Since August 1st, he’s batting .361, and his advanced numbers since July tell the real story.

Aidan Miller’s stats with AA Reading since July 1:

183 AB | 52 H | 16 2B | 7 HR | 21 RBI | 38 BB | 48 K | 24 SB | .284/.421/.497

That’s production you can’t ignore, and the Phillies clearly aren’t.

Now, here’s where the chatter online has been flat-out wrong. A lot of folks are saying this move has nothing to do with Trea Turner’s hamstring strain and that Miller isn’t eligible for the postseason because he’s not on the 40-man roster.

That’s simply not true.

Because Miller was in the organization as of August 31, he can replace an injured player on the postseason roster via the IL exemption rule. If Turner lands on the IL and can’t go in October, Miller is a legal option.

Phillies hold their breath as Trea Turner leaves game with hamstring injury

This isn’t some “pipe dream” scenario. It’s written into the rules.

So, whether this promotion is just about rewarding Miller’s monster stretch in Double-A or preparing for the reality of a Trea Turner injury, it’s a huge development.

The Phillies have one of their most exciting young talents just one step away from the bigs, and the timing could matter a lot more than people want to admit.
