George Pickens had no idea an NFL game could end in a tie

Cowboys receiver and known psycho George Pickens was not thrilled that his team’s barnburner against the Packers ended in a 40-40 tie. He went on to tell reporter Jane Slater that he didn’t even know the game could end in a tie.

George Pickens isn’t exactly a Rhodes Scholar, but I simply can’t fathom how he didn’t know a tie was possible:

“I’ve never been a part of a tie in my life. I didn’t even know football worked like that. I thought we just would start another quarter right now and keep going. But a tie? That’s a first time, yeah.”

I feel like every time there’s a tie, one or more players are completely shocked by it. George Pickens joins Donovan McNabb and other NFL players who seemingly do not know a very simple rule.

I get that ties are extremely rare, and some football players aren’t huge fans of the game. But come on, man. Either you’re lying or your football IQ is in the single digits, which certainly wouldn’t be surprising in George Pickens’ case.

Now, whether ties should exist in football is a very valid debate. These guys are putting their bodies on the line in search of victory, and calling it a tie after 10 minutes of overtime doesn’t really honor that.

At the same time, endless overtime in a regular season that the league will likely want to add an 18th game to doesn’t exactly seem prudent. Injury risk will go way, way up. Nobody wants that. The players want to stay healthy, and the owners want the guys they’re paying millions of dollars to stay on the field.

Very real and legitimate journalist. I don't see a loss on the schedule.
