Kevin Patullo Finally Speaks on the A.J. Brown Situation — and Somehow Leaves Eagles Fans With More Questions Than Answers
The Philadelphia Eagles are four games into the season, and the offense has been about as predictable as a high school offense. One drive they look unstoppable, the next they look like a preseason unit trying to figure out where the line of scrimmage even is.
Offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo finally stepped up to the podium to address what’s really going on — especially with A.J. Brown, who’s been the center of fan frustration — and while he said a lot, it didn’t exactly sound like he cleared anything up.
Kevin Patullo on AJ Brown
Kevin Patullo on criticism of using AJ Brown for the same few routes: "I think at times, through the first 4 games, he's been doing different stuff.. Sometimes the ball finds him and sometimes it doesn't. Going into every game, you plan on making sure he's the primary. If it… pic.twitter.com/9iBlLiwru7

Patullo’s first defense of the Eagles’ sluggish starts and second-half meltdowns? The “tough defenses” they’ve faced. According to him, it’s actually a good thing because the offense gets to “identify issues now” instead of being exposed late in the year.
That sounds nice on paper, but Eagles fans aren’t looking for moral victories. We’re looking for an offense that doesn’t sputter in the third quarter every single week. Or really any half of football in general.
The Buccaneers Second-Half Disaster
When pressed specifically about the collapse against Tampa Bay, Patullo went into coach-speak overdrive. A lot of words, very little substance.
“So, the second half — when you look at the game as a whole, we started off the game the way we wanted to. We had good pace, good rhythm, we got it going… there’s obviously things we want to work on to get better… But, really it just comes down to learning from each situation.”
Thanks coach? I mean to be fair this team is 4-0 and it did take the offense five or six weeks last season to finally get rolling. But at the same time it doesn’t mean we as fans can’t be frustrated.
Kevin Patullo on First Down Failures
Patullo did admit one key issue: the Eagles can’t do a damn thing on first down. That failure kills drives before they even start and forces the offense into ugly, obvious passing situations. His answer? The staff “needs to make changes to avoid that.”
No kidding.
Standing With A.J.
To be fair, Kevin Patullo did go out of his way to defend A.J. Brown’s mentality, saying he knows Brown’s heart, his motivation, and that the WR only cares about winning. He mentioned their strong communication and that he understands how to reach him.
And look — if you’re siding with anyone in this situation, it better be A.J. Brown. He’s been nothing but consistent since arriving in Philly, producing at an elite level and playing with an edge this team desperately needs. If he’s frustrated, it’s because he should be frustrated.
At the end of the day, the Eagles offense has too much talent to look this stale. Kevin Patullo can spin it however he wants, but unless the game plan starts revolving around A.J. Brown — not occasionally featuring him — then the “good problem to have” is going to turn into a bad season real quick.
