Eagles Rumors: Howie Roseman might be cooking up another trade deadline masterclass

It’s officially panic-adjacent territory in Philadelphia. The Eagles have dropped two straight for the first time since 2023, and if you think Howie Roseman’s just sitting in his office playing Minesweeper while the defense crumbles, you don’t know Howie.

The man has never met a trade he didn’t at least flirt with. And right now, with half the defensive line on injured reserve and the secondary hanging on by dental floss, it feels inevitable that Roseman’s about to make a move.

Eagles Defense Is Running Out of Bodies

Let’s start with the obvious: the Eagles’ edge depth chart looks like a preseason roster at this point. Nolan Smith and Ogbo Okoronkwo are both on IR with triceps injuries, leaving guys like Za’Darius Smith, Josh Uche, and Patrick Johnson to hold it down. It’s a solid group on paper, but that paper’s starting to burn.

Over in the secondary, Quinyon Mitchell’s hamstring injury couldn’t have come at a worse time. Kelee Ringo has stepped up, Cooper DeJean’s holding his own in the slot, but when Jakorian Bennett’s on IR and Adoree’ Jackson’s losing snaps, you start scanning the market real quick.

Possible Trade Targets for the Eagles

According to NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Howie Roseman’s eyes are on defensive reinforcements — namely an edge rusher or a cornerback.

Names floating around include Trey Hendrickson from the Bengals, who’s basically a one-man wrecking crew, and a couple of Saints options in Carl Granderson and Cameron Jordan. The problem? The 49ers are apparently sniffing around Hendrickson too, because of course they are.

At corner, Alontae Taylor (also from the Saints) makes a ton of sense. Young, physical, fits the scheme, and wouldn’t cost a kidney to acquire.

Don’t rule out Howie doubling down either. One move might not cut it. A DE-CB combo platter feels very on-brand for him, especially with the team still loaded enough to make a Super Bowl run — if they can just patch up the defense.

Vic Fangio Knows What’s Coming

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio already hinted at it: “If we need more, I’m sure Howie will get something done.” Translation: “I’m out of guys, someone call Howie before I start blitzing the mascot.”

The Eagles’ pass rush hasn’t been awful, but it’s far from the game-wrecker it used to be. Quarterbacks are getting the ball out faster, and while Fangio’s scheme is built on patience and precision, that doesn’t matter when the defense is down to second-stringers and rookies.

The Eagles aren’t panicking — but they’re not exactly chill, either. This is the same organization that traded for A.J. Brown on draft night just because it felt right. You don’t think they’ll go grab an edge rusher before November 4?

Howie Roseman sees a defense that’s one or two playmakers away from being elite again. And history tells us when he sees that, he moves. So buckle up, Birds fans. The clock’s ticking, the rumors are flying, and it’s officially Trade Season in Philadelphia.
