CJ Gardner-Johnson

CJ Gardner-Johnson is once again a free agent and the Eagles should once again bring him back

CJ Gardner-Johnson is a free agent again. After signing to the Ravens practice squad last week, the team released him today after coming to “an amicable mutual decision,” according to his agent.

At this point, I think the Eagles need to kick the tires on everyone and anyone who could potentially help their defense. Secondary is completely decimated with injuries, Andrew Mukuba has been up and down. It’s time to bring CJGJ back.

CJ Gardner-Johnson is hungry, and that’s exactly what the Eagles need

After CJ Gardner-Johnson left Philly in 2022 and the defense fell off a cliff, I heard a lot of “the Eagles defense lost its swagger once CJGJ walked out the door.” Last Thursday against New York, I felt that same sentiment. The defense was flat. Absolutely no juice to speak of. Gardner-Johnson provides that.

For all his faults, many of which we don’t really know about, the guy can ball. He had six interceptions last season and it felt like he was poised to be an Eagle for a long time. Then he randomly got traded for a guy who isn’t even on the team anymore.

Simply put, the Eagles can use all the help they can get right now. If nothing else, at least CJGJ will make this team a little fun again.
