BRAVERY: NFL official puts his life on the line to protect Jaxon Smith-Njigba from the Texans brutally attacking him on the sidelines
Someone call the Medal of Honor committee, because NFL official Nate Jones just risked it all to save Jaxon Smith-Njigba from the terrifying might of the Houston Texans’ bench. Truly heroic stuff.
JSN lost his helmet and was shoved out of bounds on the Texans sideline. As tensions started to flare, JSN casually took a seat on the Houston’s bench and put his hands up, begging for mercy is a gaggle of Texans surrounded him, presumably ready to beat his helmet-less head into pulp.
Not today.
Luckily for Jaxon Smith-Njigba, former NFL player turned official Nate Jones, put his life on the line and bravely, stood between the wide receiver and an army of men built like forklifts. Thank God, the way he positioned himself was like he was defending the gates of the Alamo, not a Seahawks wideout in a regular season game that ended past midnight.
Official Puts His Life on the Line to Protect Jaxon Smith-Njigba
Those aggregate accounts, man. Let me tell you… they are something else. I do find their tweets funny but at the same time, am I the only one that thinks this is a dramatic overreaction?
I get that Jaxon Smith-Njigba was helmet-less but the situation was basically defused the second he fell backwards, taking a seat on the bench.
He put his hands up like he was about to be arrested and the majority, if not all, of the Texans players in front of him were already doing their best to not make additional contact with him.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba was fine…lol

Nate Jones, who looks A LOT like Bobby Portis, dramatically rushed in there in his official’s uniform like he’s unbreakable, willing to “risk it all” to create a human shield around JSN.
Maybe some primal brotherhood instincts kicked in? Either way, I found the entire thing to be severely overly hyped and really, completely bizarre. I also wonder if the official would have still “protected” Jaxon Smith-Njigba if he knew that the Seahawks WR would soon-after DUNK on the officiating crew shortly after.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba Dunk Celly in the Endzone
The only thing more ridiculous than this fake scuffle was the fact that it happened after midnight. I literally do not sleep so I actually don’t mind a 10 pm start time for Monday Night Football but apparently, Roger Goodell thinks it’s a great idea to have Seattle and Houston start a game when most fans are brushing their teeth for bed on the east coast.
I understand the time difference but still, there’s no reason anyone should be watching football at 1:30 in the morning on a Tuesday.
Anyways, the Seahawks are quietly one of the most entertaining teams in the league, Jaxon Smith-Njigba keeps getting better, and Nate Jones just cemented his place in the “Ref Hall of Fame for Effort.”
You don’t often see a man in stripes ready to die for a wideout, but hey, there’s a first time for everything.
