Daryl Morey hanging a portrait of Joel Embiid in his living room is almost too perfect
The 76ers president of basketball operations, Daryl Morey tweeted out a picture highlighting a new book titled ‘Expensive Basketball’ by Shea Serrano last night.
After some quick research, that book specifically dives into the emotional side of basketball. Sounds pretty fucking weird to me, but I guess we can go light on Morey today given the fact that his draft picks and handling of Quentin Grimes seem to be going smoothly right now.
Speaking of emotions however, take a look at that portrait of Joel Embiid hanging up in Morey’s living room. Also pretty fucking weird but it does speak volumes about what the suits inside the organization feel about the big fella, through all the trials and tribulations.

Again, you won’t find one article on this website that actually supports Daryl Morey. I once hated the guy myself but given the complete flip-flop this team has done, in large part due to Morey’s drafting and roster construction, I will hold off on that… for now.
Instead, let’s talk about this portrait of Joel Embiid, which while it’s pretty weird in general, I also don’t agree that Morey should be catching strays on social media because of it. Case in point, those who believe that it’s weird due to the specific reason that Morey didn’t draft him.

Hell might have frozen over. But I gotta be honest, I really don’t see an issue with the portrait of Joel Embiid. I find it weird, yes, and we all know that Embiid is a direct-product of Sam Hinkie.
Speaking of Sam, anytime he is mentioned, I feel obligated to drop this quote from the manifesto, where he was talking about Joel Embiid. It’s okay to cry. Just read.
To do this requires you to divorce process from outcome. You can be right for the wrong reasons. In our business, you’re often lionized for it. You can be wrong for the right reasons. This may well prove to be Joel Embiid.
There is signal everywhere that Joel is unique, from the practice gyms in Lawrence, Kansas to Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania to Doha, Qatar where he does something awe inspiring far too regularly. We remain hopeful (and optimistic) about his long-term playing career, but we don’t yet know exactly how it will turn out.
The decision to draft Joel third, though, still looks to me to be the correct one in hindsight given the underlying reasoning. But to call something that could be wrong (“failed draft pick”) right (“good decision”) makes all of our heads hurt, mine included.
That’s really the point, right? It’s also why Daryl Morey probably has that picture hanging on his wall. Joel Embiid is a general talent and the things that he does on a basketball court are “awe inspiring far too regularly” for the casual basketball fan to even comprehend.
Morey knows that his legacy here in Philadelphia will be defined by Joel Embiid. It hasn’t worked in anyones favor yet, but we have no choice but to “Trust The Process” and ride this entire saga until the wheels fall off.
We have reached an unfortunate point in The Process where anything Embiid related on social media just gets absolutely ripped to shreds with negativity. These dark times make those voices even louder and they will always continue until proven otherwise in the playoffs. It’s inevitable at this point.
That’s completely fine. We are built to walk through the storm. You have been spared, Daryl Morey. It’s rare we ever come to your defense. Today, we stand up against those who do not Trust The Process, united against the NBA Deep State.
They Hate The Process, but if you’ve been paying attention, you know that already
