WATCH: VJ Edgecombe mic’d up moment with Joel Embiid
Last night felt like the entire Process Era condensed into a meaningless regular season basketball game. The Sixers a 24-point lead, dominated for three quarters, and then completely imploded down the stretch.

The Bulls didn’t lead once until Nikola Vucevic hit a dagger three with just over three seconds left, sending the United Center into chaos and handing Philly a 113-111 loss that felt like a gut punch.
While the majority of Sixers fans decided to jump all over Joel Embiid and blame ONLY him for the loss last night in Chicago, I would like to direct everyone’s attention over to a wholesome moment between the rook VJ Edgecombe and the big fella.
Joel Embiid was where you’d typically find him, down on the hardwood, looking for some help to get back on his feet. VJ Edgecombe was the first guy there with Kelly Oubre Jr.

I mean… I love it.
Shit like this matters. I know people gloss over it and write it off as something that typically happens with any team sport at the professional level but when we are talking about the Sixers, it just means more.
That’s our guy VJ Edgecombe, a rookie wise beyond his years, chopping it up with Joel Embiid. I mean seriously, how many years did we just beg for Embiid’s running mate to help guide and lead him?
- Ben Simmons: No.
- Jimmy Butler: Shortlived.
- Markelle Fultz: No.
- James Harden: No.
That’s why I’ve got to give the kid his flowers. With Embiid, it’s always a mental game. Edgecombe came over in a lighthearted, humorous way to make sure the big fella was alright and that kind of presence means something.
Don’t get it twisted. Last night was bad. Even in defeat however, it’s clear we have something special brewing in the locker room. That’s something that’s pretty rare when we’re talking about the Philadelphia 76ers and for that, we should be thankful it’s happening.
