Nolan Smith activated off IR, set to return for Eagles on Monday Night Football

The Eagles are getting some serious reinforcements for their Monday night showdown against the Packers. The team officially activated edge rusher Nolan Smith from injured reserve, clearing the way for his return after missing the last five games with a triceps injury.

Nolan Smith started the first three games of the season before going down in Week 3 against the Rams. The Eagles didn’t need a corresponding roster move since they already had an open spot, and they also elevated linebacker Patrick Johnson from the practice squad ahead of the game.

The Eagles’ edge rotation will look drastically different from the one fans saw last month. Not only is Smith back, but Jaelan Phillips is expected to make his team debut after being acquired from Miami, and Brandon Graham is back in the mix after coming out of retirement.

Smith, Phillips, and BG join a loaded group of pass rushers heading into a prime-time matchup against Jordan Love and a Packers offense that has struggled to protect the quarterback in recent weeks.

Nolan Smith didn’t record a sack through his first three games this year, but he proved last season that he can get home consistently, finishing with 10.5 sacks across the regular season and playoffs.

With Smith and BG back and Phillips stepping into the fold, the Eagles’ defense should have no shortage of energy or firepower off the edge.

Monday night at Lambeau just got a whole lot more interesting.
