Ian Rapoport throws shade at Eagles in the corniest way imaginable during Patriots vs. Jets on TNF

Another day and somehow another person is crying about the Philadelphia Eagles and the Tush Push. Shocker. This time it came from NFL insider Ian Rapoport, who decided to get cute on social media during the Patriots Jets snoozefest on Thursday Night Football.

Nobody on earth is cornier than NFL insiders when they try to be funny. These are people who spend their entire lives tweeting like robots, reporting transactions, and texting agents.

Then once every few months they break character and try to crack a joke, and it lands with the grace of a wet sock. That is exactly what happened with Rapoport.

During the Patriots game, he posted a little jab aimed at the Eagles while hyping up one of TreVeyon Henderson’s touchdowns, the one where half the team shoved him across the goal line. And somehow he thought he was being clever.

The Green Bay Packers visiting locker rooms at Lambeau Field have gone viral>>

All this does is prove the point we already knew. The reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles live rent free in every single person’s head. Even a national insider who is supposed to be neutral can’t stop thinking about Philadelphia.

What makes the whole thing hilarious is the hypocrisy. The Patriots literally ran the same “push the pile” action that people scream about when the Eagles run the Tush Push.

It is the exact same motion.

So here’s the real question. Should that play be banned too? Should the Patriots be penalized? Because if the Eagles did it, everyone would be melting down on live television.

This is literally the same action that people have an issue with on the Tush Push. So, why not ban that play the Patriots ran last night too? Or penalize teams that do that?

I’m sure if the Eagles did that it would be a problem.

When the Eagles master it, it is cheating. When anyone else does it, it is grit and heart and football heritage.

You either like football or you don’t. It cannot be both.

Helping push your teammate forward has been part of the sport since the beginning. I’m playing devil’s advocate here, but if you start banning plays like the Tush Push, where does it stop? At some point we have to stop letting soft people ruin America’s game.

If Ian Rapoport wants to tweet like a comedian, good for him. Just don’t be surprised when Eagles fans roast him for the corniest attempt at shade of the season.
