Lions face serious injury concerns ahead of Sunday Night Football vs. Eagles

Lions fans might want to look away, because the injury report heading into Sunday night feels like a bad omen disguised as a press release.

The Detroit Lions roll into Philadelphia for a primetime matchup with the 7-2 Eagles, and instead of showing up looking like a healthy contender atop the NFC, they’re limping into Lincoln Financial Field with a handful of problems that could crack this game wide open.

Let’s start with the bad news — and there’s plenty of it.

Detroit officially ruled out Sam LaPorta and Terrion Arnold, two guys they absolutely cannot afford to lose in a game like this. LaPorta being sidelined was a surprise since nothing seemed wrong last week, but apparently he hasn’t practiced once all week. That leaves the Lions scrambling for tight end production with Brock Wright and Ross Dwelley, which feels… less than ideal.

Arnold being out is another brutal hit for a defense that’s about to deal with AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith in primetime. Pair that with Kerby Joseph and Josh Paschal also unavailable, and suddenly the Lions’ secondary looks like it’s held together with duct tape and positive thinking.

Lions Still Leaning on Hutchinson

The only good news Detroit received is that Aidan Hutchinson is cleared to go after an elbow scare earlier in the week. And to be fair, he’s been a monster — elite grades, seven sacks, four forced fumbles, and enough QB pressures to make most offensive lines reconsider their career choices.

But one healthy Hutchinson isn’t fixing a defense missing multiple starters. The Lions are going to need him to basically turn into Wolverine on Sunday night.

Dan Campbell’s Play-Calling Circus Continues

One last wrinkle: Dan Campbell has apparently taken play-calling duties from his offensive coordinator, which is… something you definitely want to be experimenting with right before facing the Eagles in primetime. Totally normal, stable vibes over there in Detroit.

The Lions need to play nearly perfect football to beat the Eagles this week — and they’re already showing up with a stacked injury list and a head coach tinkering with his own offense on the fly. Meanwhile, the Birds are rested, rolling, and have the No. 1 spot in the NFC within reach.

This matchup was supposed to be a heavyweight showdown. Instead, it feels like the Lions might be walking into a buzzsaw.

Sunday night can’t get here fast enough.
