WATCH: Eagles stop the Lions FIVE TIMES on fourth down
We have officially reached a point where Vic Fangio’s defense is carrying this football team like a bouncer dragging a drunk guy out of Stateside Live.
The Eagles won another low-scoring rock fight on Sunday night, beating the Detroit Lions 16-9 at the Linc in yet another game that will be defined by an absolutely dominant defensive performance.
I don’t care if the offense hasn’t figured shit out yet. When you hold a top-three NFL offense to nine points, bully Jared Goff into submission, and force 0-for-5 on fourth down, that is artwork.
0-for-5 on Fourth Down.
Eagles defense delivers a biblical beatdown on Dan Campbell’s Detroit Lions
Sunday night was the “No Means No on Fourth Down” Game and Dan Campbell learned that message five separate times.
The Lions didn’t just lose on fourth down. They got thrown into an industrial shredder.
Five attempts. Five failures. Five moments where Dan Campbell stared directly at a defense that was eating souls and said, “Nah, I’m good, let’s try again.” It was disrespect. Nakobe Dean said it. And honestly, he’s right.
Every Fourth Down Stop by the Eagles:
Here’s how those fourth-down stops went down:
| Attempt | Situation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 4th & 1, DET 48 | Gibbs swallowed whole by Moro Ojomo | Turnover on downs |
| 4th & 2, Fake punt from DET 43 | Jalyx Hunt sniffed it out | Turnover on downs |
| 4th & 5, PHI 32 | Goff throws an apology into the turf | Turnover on downs |
| 4th & Goal, PHI 3 | Jaelan Phillips heat-seeking missile | Turnover on downs |
| 4th & 3, PHI 45 | Quinyon Mitchell erases St. Brown | Turnover on downs |
This was only the third time since 1991 a team has gone 0-for-5 or worse on fourth down. Two of those belong to Dan Campbell.
Jared Goff came into Philly completing 74 percent of his passes. He left completing 38 percent. He looked like he was throwing with oven mitts on. The Eagles defensive line deleted passing windows from existence:
- 20 QB pressures
- 5 passes batted at the line
Amon-Ra St. Brown, one of the most dominant receivers in football, was targeted 12 times and ended up with 2 catches.
Amon-Ra St. Brown gets punked by Eagles defense after spending all offseason talking
The Eagles are 8-2 and have scored 26 total points in the last two weeks. I don’t know how sustainable this is, but I do know one thing: Thank God for Vic Fangio.
