WATCH: Jalen Hurts responds to reported Eagles frustrations in the most Jalen Hurts way possible

Another week. Another win. Another round of “anonymous frustration” stories about Jalen Hurts hitting the internet 15 minutes after the Eagles move to 8-2.

The city of Philadelphia has a difficult time enjoying pretty much anything.

We all know that to be true and to take it a step further, there’s nothing that Philly loves more than to take the team that’s currently 8-2, favorites to win back-to-back Super Bowls, and drag them right into the mud with them.

The Eagles cannot enjoy anything and apparently the quarterback can’t either, even if he’s thrown for 16 touchdowns and one interception.

We have reached the point where we cannot go a single minute of the day without someone whispering that Jalen Hurts is “playing his game” too much.

This time, the report comes from The Athletic with an assist from Derrick Gunn.

The claimed issue is that some people inside the building are “frustrated” with Hurts being hesitant to throw into tight windows against zone coverage.

According to Gunn, Jalen Hurts is not “taking what is discussed during the week and transitioning it to game day” which basically means we as a fanbase have officially entered the “things are slow on offense, start blaming the quarterback” portion of the media’s script.

Jalen Hurts was asked about all this on Wednesday and his reaction was exactly what you would expect from a guy who has never publicly cracked in his entire football life.

Hurts also added that he is focused on trying to improve and that he will never run away from accountability. Okay… so now what? Jalen Hurts isn’t melting down over a rumor from people who refuse to put their names on anything.

Hurts also said nobody inside the organization has approached him directly about any frustrations. So either this frustration is imaginary or it lives in the same corner of the locker room where the disgruntled sources only speak to national writers.

Nick Sirianni chimed in too. “I don’t necessarily believe everything that’s being written,” Sirianni said. “I just don’t believe everything you see or read.” Which is correct. Especially when the offense is struggling and literally everyone is looking for a storyline.

His head coach Nick Sirianni isn’t either.

The Offense is Bad Right Now and That Is Not a Secret

The offensive rankings right now are ugly. Twenty-fifth in total yards. Twenty-eighth in passing. Twenty-ninth on third down. Seventeenth in rushing after being second last year. The jump from last season to this season is comically bad and everyone knows it.

But before the pitchfork committee starts celebrating, here are the numbers the “frustrating” quarterback is actually putting up:

Sixteen touchdowns. One interception. Sixty-seven percent completion rate. Fifth-highest QB rating in the league. Best TD to INT ratio in football. Fifty-four and twenty-two career record.

We get it. The offense looks constipated. Watching this unit feels like trying to start a frozen lawnmower. Jalen Hurts is not imploding. He is just working inside a system that looks like someone unplugged its brain.

More importantly, Jalen Hurts Understands the Assignment

Hurts said what he always says. It starts with him. He is accountable. He wants to grow. He wants the offense to find rhythm. He takes pride in the entire operation. And he knows the team needs to be better.

Jalen Hurts could go 18 for 18 with six touchdowns and someone would still wake up the next morning and complain that he did not “anticipate the middle read” enough.

The Eagles are 8-2. They are winning behind the best red zone offense in football and the lowest turnover total in the league. The offense is a mess, but Jalen Hurts is the main reason this team has not completely fallen apart.

There is frustration all over the building. The line is banged up, the run game is stalled and yes, the scheme is incoherent. The receivers are annoyed, the fans are annoyed and yet the guy who has been holding everything together is somehow getting dragged into “Carson Wentz Part II” comparisons.

We can be frustrated and can critique but maybe everyone take a deep breath and agree that we should all at least stay tethered to reality, right? Jalen Hurts is not the problem. He is the only thing preventing the problem from swallowing the season whole.
