Eagles’ Kevin Patullo teases a “new wrinkle” in the running game for Week 13 — I’ll believe it when I see it
Eagles offensive coordinator and resident terrorist Kevin Patullo spoke to the media Tuesday afternoon, fielding a barrage of questions about why his offense continues to suck ass.
He didn’t offer much clarity (or hope) for anyone tuned in. What he did offer was a vague tease about some “new wrinkle” to the Eagles’ currently non-existent running game.
Eagles promise change, but I’ll believe it when I see it
“We’re trying pretty much anything and everything we can to find ways to get him going. I know that the guys are excited for something new this week to see if we can get it going. Really, it’s just a challenge upon us when we go into the game. We have a certain plan and if we have to adjust, we will.
I know everybody’s eager to move on, especially with a short week. It’s good to get this thing going and try to get the run game going. We know it’s an important piece of the offense and we know it’s not going to be like last year; we just have to find our way this year and really work through it.“
The team’s inability to run the ball has been their Achilles’ heel all year. It’s the No. 1 reason they’ve blown multiple big leads. Tampa Bay, Denver, and now Dallas were all able to crawl back into games because the Eagles simply couldn’t close anything out on the ground.
And it’s not just one culprit. Saquon Barkley’s vision hasn’t been sharp, and his upfield cuts haven’t been there. The offensive line has been a mess. And, of course, Kevin Patullo isn’t exactly dialing up anything that makes life easier on anyone.
Do I think Patullo and Nick Sirianni actually have it in them to get this offense back on track? Honestly, no. Sirianni isn’t Andy Reid, or even Doug Pederson. He’s not an X’s and O’s guy, and it makes it insanely hard for this offense to function when he doesn’t have a real offensive mind beneath him.
And Patullo? He’s basically a dumber version of Sirianni. I know it’s not entirely their fault, but it’s like…95% their fault. The two biggest issues with this offense are clearly ineffective play calling and back-breaking penalties, both of which come straight from bad coaching.
The Eagles are on a short week heading into a Black Friday matchup with Chicago. For my sake, and for every other Eagles fan out there, I genuinely hope Patullo finds a way to dig his head out of his ass and get this thing rolling.
