Make It Make Sense: WIP is finally talking X’s & O’s when it comes to the Eagles and why that says everything
I never thought I’d see the day, but here we are. 94.1 WIP is actually talking Eagles football. Real football. Scheme. Matchups. Play design. Not fake controversy. Not rage bait. Not manufactured chaos designed to whip fans into a frenzy and drive phone calls. Just ball.
Honestly, that might be the loudest compliment I can give them because the only reason this is happening is simple. They ran out of things to attack and the entire city of Philadelphia absolutely hates them.
They’ve got nothing left to attack.
Jalen Hurts went out on Sunday, posted a near perfect passer rating, the Eagles won 31-0, and suddenly the usual talking points vanished.
No “he can’t throw.” No “he’s holding the offense back.” No existential crisis about whether he’s the guy. The well finally dried up.
“The Eagles need to be a run first team”
Hugh’s not overthinking it: the Eagles need to be a run-first team. Period. 🦅 pic.twitter.com/UbZj1GXdh2

So now, magically, we’re talking about X’s and O’s…
Funny how that works, right?
All of a sudden it’s “the Eagles need to be a run first team.” Why does everything in this city have to be so conclusion-based after one game, especially against the Raiders?
What if I told you the Eagles aren’t a run team or a pass team?
They’re a matchup team. They’re whatever the week calls for.
Some weeks Jalen Hurts is going to throw it 35 times and light teams up. Other weeks, they’re going to lean on the run game, bleed the clock, and suffocate you. That’s literally been the identity of this team throughout the entire Super Bowl window.
The best Eagles teams have always married the run and the pass. Think 2022. Elite rushing attack. Best passing season of Hurts’ career. Balance.
The difference now is this defense is terrifying and yet, even with that reality staring them in the face, WIP can’t help itself.
Some at WIP don’t want Jalen Hurts to run the ball now…

For weeks, the same voices screamed that Hurts “needs to run more.” He’s lost a step. He’s not decisive. The offense doesn’t work without his legs. The “reports” even went as far in saying that Jalen Hurts actually refused to run the football.
Then what happened? Well, Jalen Hurts used his legs to convert a massive third-and-long on Sunday, and played squeaky clean football, so now all of the sudden the tune changes again.
Now it’s concern trolling. Now it’s “we don’t want him running too much.”
Now it’s about preserving his body. You cannot make this stuff up.
Opinions are allowed to evolve. That’s not the issue.
The issue is refusing to admit when you were wrong and really, just make shit up to talk about and criticize. Just own it and say it. Instead, the goalposts move every single week and of course, I’m looking directly at Spike Eskin here.
Spike Eskin lied about Jalen Hurts and now looks like a complete fool
Somehow, in the middle of all this, Spike even tried to take a victory lap, implying that the standing ovation nonsense WIP pushed last week had something to do with the Eagles winning.
That is an all-time level of delusion.
No one tailgating at 6 a.m. cares what Spike Eskin thinks fans should do inside the Linc. Ron Jaworski chimed in too, worried about Hurts getting hurt. Fine. I’ll give Jaws a partial pass. He’s a former quarterback. He generally knows ball.
Even Ron Jaworski chimed in, who is fearful of Jalen getting hurt
Jaws does not want to see Jalen Hurts run more:

"Obviously they were good against the Raiders, but you're going to play against better defensive teams that are schooled better and coached better and respond to RPO's a lot better. I just don't believe you want to put your… pic.twitter.com/rYAlxQPsvq
Then there’s our favorite village idiot, Tommy Kelly…
This was the perfect opponent for the Eagles today. Needed to beat up on somebody like this and regain some confidence. The Raiders are really bad but I do think this kind of performance could go a long way to giving this team their spark back

No credit. None. Just more hedging, more dismissiveness, more refusal to acknowledge what actually happened on the field.
Tommy Kelly has been one of the loudest Hurts skeptics at the station for years, even after wins and when Hurts responds exactly the way a franchise quarterback should, suddenly it’s silence or deflection.
How Real Eagles Fans Talk
All week at work, with normal fans, the conversations are completely different. We’re talking about sequencing. Play calling. How the Eagles are using motion. How they’re protecting Hurts better. How the defense is dictating game scripts. That’s real football conversation.
That’s exactly why so many people despise WIP.
What they do most of the time isn’t analysis. It’s theater.
It’s hot takes and fake narratives dressed up as concern. So when WIP finally starts talking scheme and strategy, it’s not groundbreaking. It’s just them arriving late to a conversation real fans have already been having.
The locker room gets it. Landon Dickerson gets it. DeVonta Smith gets it. The Eagles back Jalen Hurts. There’s unity. There’s belief. And that’s all that actually matters.
The rest is noise but for once, even WIP couldn’t ignore the truth.
