Kyle Schwarber takes batting practice like a psycho, and it’s paid off
If you’re even tangentially interested in the Phillies, you know slugger Kyle Schwarber re-signed with the team on a 5-year, $150 million deal. As the highest-paid DH in MLB history, The Athletic saw fit to write a story about him, and his approach to batting practice stood out as insane yet typically Schwarber.
Kyle Schwarber breaks the mold relative to other hitters, considering “eating shit” a core part of his practice philosophy:

H/T @JRBaseball8
God, that fires me up in ways I never thought possible. I know this is just talking about practice, but this demonic approach to hitting is exactly what makes Schwarber such a beast at the plate.
Obviously, the general public gives the credit for his success at the plate to Kevin Long, who’s been his hitting coach in Philadelphia as well as during their time with the Nationals. However, his personal hitting coach, Aaron Capista, who has been working with him for the last eight years, cannot go unmentioned.
And that’s who this piece in The Athletic focuses on. The relationship between these two took Schwarber from a potential platoon bat in Washington to the heights he’s reached now.
