Tim Saunders Flyers Hot Mic Suspension

Flyers suspend radio broadcaster Tim Saunders, proving yet again, you can’t even joke around with the boys anymore

The Flyers announced Friday morning that longtime radio broadcaster Tim Saunders has been suspended for two games following a hot mic moment during last night’s game against Buffalo.

Once you see the word “suspension,” you naturally assume something wildly out of pocket was said.

Relax. That is not what happened here, but the Flyers are still going to suspend Tim Saunders for two games because of it. The crime was Tim Saunders telling one of the guys in there to blow him.

  • Tim Saunders: “While you’re down there, would you mind blowing me?”
  • Broadcast: “I think we’re still on the air, Tim.”

Audio: Tim Saunders caught on a hot mic

That’s the crime scene

First of all, how does a producer let the mics stay hot during a timeout and not say a word? You’re telling me nobody could hit the dump button or give a quick heads-up?

We’re just letting it ride and then acting shocked afterward?

That’s malpractice.

Instead of laughing it off, dumping the audio, and moving on like every normal human being would, the Flyers decided to suspend Saunders for two games. Two games for a joke that the boys have all heard a version of at least a million times in a locker room, in the group chat, on a golf course, or standing around a grill.

I even saw someone on X suggest a walkout, and honestly? I get it.

This is how revolutions start.

The suspension itself isn’t funny. That part is dumb.

The moment itself is objectively hilarious and pretending otherwise is exhausting.

Tim Saunders has been part of Flyers hockey for decades. He didn’t insult anyone. He didn’t cross some moral Rubicon. He cracked a joke, thinking he was off-air, because the producer left the mics hot.

That’s it.

He’ll be back in the booth soon enough, as he should be, and this whole thing will live on as another reminder that somewhere along the line, it’s detrimental to joke around with the boys these days. Long live Tim Saunders. Let the boys joke.
