TROLL MODE: Joel Embiid brings back Doc Rivers quote in his Sixers post game presser
Joel Embiid handled the Washington Wizards on the court last night then dropped a vintage “Troel” moment in his postgame presser.
Embiid hit everyone with a subtle line and a perfectly timed pause, which if you’ve been paying attention to the Sixers over the past decade, you knew exactly what he was doing.
Embiid resurrected one of the most unintentionally legendary quotes of the Doc Rivers era and just like that, “Troel” Embiid clocked back in.

Joel Embiid is back. No denying that now…
If you’ve been around long enough, you remember it. Back on April 22, 2023, with the Sixers up 3–0 on Brooklyn, Doc Rivers stepped to the podium and tried to deliver a tough, buttoned-up playoff message. What came out instead was an all-time quote that instantly escaped containment.
“You’ve got to take care of your business. Don’t play with your meat.”
That sentence has lived rent-free in this city ever since.
So when Embiid casually echoed the spirit of it this week, there was nothing accidental about it. That was a veteran move and a reminder that the vibes are different for all the right reasons this year.
Joel Embiid is slowly reaching levels of dominance again
For the first time since the 2024 playoffs, Joel Embiid has played five straight games. In Philadelphia, that alone feels like a small miracle.
Over his last five games, Embiid is averaging:
- 28.4 points
- 8.2 rebounds
- 4.6 assists
- 1.2 blocks
- 53.6 percent shooting
The Sixers are 4–1 in that stretch.
Zoom out even further and it gets louder. Over the last 30 days, Embiid has been the best center in basketball.
- 29.0 points per game
- 8.3 rebounds
- 3.6 assists
- 53 percent from the field
- 83 percent from the line
- Plus-59 across nine games
- Seven games with at least 25 points on 50 percent shooting
He’s leading all centers in scoring since the start of the new year, and he’s doing it without forcing the issue or hijacking the offense.
That matters, because Tyrese Maxey is playing at an MVP-adjacent level right next to him. The balance feels real. The chemistry feels sustainable. And for the first time in a while, the Sixers feel like a team that actually knows who they are.
A month ago, a lot of us were quietly wondering if this was the beginning of the end of the Embiid era. The injuries. The uncertainty. The emotional exhaustion that comes with investing in this team every year.
Now, we’re laughing again. Believing again. Watching postgame pressers instead of box scores. Joel Embiid cracking jokes while dropping 30 is not just funny. It’s a sign of confidence. Comfort. Control.
Honestly, Sixers fans deserve this version of it.
