No, Nick Sirianni will not be calling plays in 2026, regardless of what Adam Schefter says
On Wednesday, Adam Schefter went on ESPN to talk about Nick Sirianni and the Eagles’ search for a new offensive coordinator. He didn’t really break any new ground, but he did say something that has Philadelphia in a bit of a frenzy.
Schefter: “They have Nick Sirianni who always could call the offense if they can’t find somebody worthy enough to do the job.”
That’s not going to happen, for more than one reason. First, he simply hates calling plays. He complained about it in his first year in Philly before handing it off to Shane Steichen. In 2023 and 2025, when the offense was clearly out of whack, Nick Sirianni still refused to switch things up with play calling.
Secondly, not hiring an OC and giving Sirianni complete control over the offense is a death sentence, and it’s a road the Eagles have been down before. Heading into 2020, they tried the same thing with Doug Pederson, hiring a bunch of offensive consultants while letting Doug call plays and run the offense. We know how that played out, and Doug was gone the following offseason.
I know whenever Schefter says something about the Eagles, we put a lot of stock in it. That makes sense when he’s hinting at roster moves or coaches coming or going, but this specific comment was obviously said off the cuff. I can’t believe anyone within the organization wants to roll into 2026 without an OC.
I wouldn’t put much stock into this Schefter report. Everyone relax.
