Course Conditions: Justin Rose goes wire-to-wire, Patrick Reed locked in, Nelly Korda back in the winner’s circle

Justin Rose just walked into Torrey Pines at 45 years old and put on one of the most disrespectful performances we’ve seen on the PGA Tour in years.

On a golf course built to reward power and punish mistakes, Justin Rose made the entire field feel irrelevant by the weekend.

A 62-65 start essentially ended the tournament before it ever got interesting, and by the time Sunday rolled around, the only real question was how big the margin of victory would be. Seven shots later, Justin Rose picked up his 13th PGA Tour win and reminded everyone that loving the grind still matters.

Justin Rose talked openly throughout the week about still loving the game and still wanting to work. That’s not nothing at 45. This wasn’t a nostalgia win. This was a beatdown. Torrey Pines never had a chance.

While Justin Rose was turning back the clock in California, Patrick Reed was busy continuing one of the more chaotic and effective starts to a season we’ve seen in a while. Reed followed up his win in Dubai with another strong showing in Bahrain, firing 66-67 to force his way into a three man playoff.

He didn’t win it, bowing out with a bogey on the first playoff hole, but the bigger picture is obvious.

Patrick Reed is golfing his ass off right now.

With his LIV future behind him and a PGA Tour return clearly on his mind, these DP World Tour results matter. He’s already near the top of the Race to Dubai standings with minimal starts. Another win overseas and the path back to the PGA Tour becomes a lot smoother.

You don’t have to like Patrick Reed to admit he’s doing exactly what he needs to do.

LPGA, turned Nelly Korda’s long awaited return to the winner’s circle into a mess.

Korda opened her 2026 season with a win at the Tournament of Champions, her first victory in over a year, but the way it happened left a bad taste. The LPGA elected to cancel the final round due to cold weather and officially reduce the event to 54 holes. Golf fans and players alike were left scratching their heads.

It was cold. The kind of cold professional golfers play through all the time. The tour put out mixed messages, delayed decisions, and ultimately chose the softest possible outcome instead of finding a way to finish the tournament properly.

Korda deserved the win based on her position, but the LPGA once again managed to make itself the story for all the wrong reasons.

So that’s your early 2026 golf snapshot.

Justin Rose looks ageless and fully capable of winning anywhere. Patrick Reed is forcing his way back into relevance through pure results. The LPGA continues to trip over the basics at the worst possible moments. Same sport. Very different levels of execution.
