The Flyers had one job on Olympic gold medal morning and missed badly
Real quick Olympic wrap up from a Flyers perspective. Travis Sanheim suited up for Canada and Rick Tocchet was behind their bench. Rasmus Ristolainen won a bronze medal with Finland after they handled Slovakia 6-1 on Saturday.
That’s the whole Flyers Olympic report. Congratulations to all three of them, genuinely. Now let’s talk about the social media situation because it needs to be addressed. Not that anyone needs a reminder but the Philadelphia Flyers are a hockey team located in the birthplace of America.
On the morning that the United States Men’s Hockey Team was playing for an Olympic gold medal for the first time since 1980, with the entire country setting alarms and waking up early to watch, the Flyers posted a picture of Team Canada.
Travis Sanheim. Their guy. Eventual silver medal winner.
Read the room, Flyers…
Nobody is saying you can’t acknowledge your own players, but the timing and the energy were completely off. People all over the country were getting up before sunrise to cheer on Team USA in one of the most historic moments in American hockey history and the Philadelphia Flyers were out here tweeting out Canada content.
It was cringe and everybody felt it.
The Ristolainen bronze medal post should not have even happened. A Flyer winning bronze with Finland on the same day USA won gold is the definition of content that can wait or simply not be made at all.

This is sort of where we are with Philadelphia sports right now.
The Flyers are not giving anyone much to get excited about. Daryl Morey has done a fantastic job of taking whatever momentum the Sixers had and turning it into a mess.
The Union opened their domestic season Saturday night and showed that moving on from your best players is not a great strategy for an exciting product. The Phillies are the only sure thing in this city and they are still playing spring training games in Florida.
At least Schwarber hit a 438-foot bomb yesterday. We have that.
