Aaron Judge Team USA World Baseball Classic Speech

Aaron Judge gave a speech to Team USA and the honest take is that it wasn’t very good at all

Every article about Aaron Judge’s pregame speech to Team USA on Monday has been nothing but glowing and I am going to need everyone to pump the brakes for a second.

Team USA captain Aaron Judge got up in front of a room full of All-Stars in a red, white and blue uniform and delivered a speech about sacrifice and being there for one another.

He said “we’re going to lay it all on the line” and “if we do that, we’re bringing the gold home, man.” The sentiment is great. The speech itself was fine. But the way the media has been covering it like he channeled his inner Al Pacino in Any Given Sunday is a little much.

Aaron Judge makes a speech to Team USA ahead of the World Baseball Classic

Not great from Aaron Judge

I’m ready to run through a… wet napkin. I mean seriously, what was that?

For starters, Aaron Judge was standing on the side of the room, which already made the whole thing a little awkward visually.

If we are being completely honest about the speech itself, it just did not land the way a locker room speech from the captain of Team USA should land.

The words were right but the delivery was not exactly the kind of thing that makes a room full of professional baseball players want to run through a brick wall.

Compare it to Bryce Harper on the Pat McAfee Show the day before. Harper talked about what it feels like to hear your national anthem blare over the speakers knowing what you represent. That was the speech. That was the energy. If you need someone in that room to set the temperature, Harper is your guy.

And honestly, the obvious choice for that role was always Kyle Schwarber. Harper himself already called Schwarber the glue guy. Schwarber was born to be in that kind of moment. He is loud, he is genuine, and when he speaks in a locker room people actually get fired up.

Judge is the captain of this team by reputation and accomplishment, and rightfully so. He is one of the best players alive. But public speaking is a skill separate from hitting baseballs, and it is something Judge can still work on.

Excited to say “ALL RISE” though…

None of this changes how excited I am for the tournament. And I will say this freely for the first time in my life: I am genuinely thrilled to finally have a legitimate reason to scream “ALL RISE” when Aaron Judge walks to the plate.

Complete Schedule: 2026 World Baseball Classic

That call has always been one of the coolest things in baseball and I have refused to enjoy it my entire adult life because Judge plays for the Yankees. Watching him represent America in the World Baseball Classic is my loophole and I am taking it.

Judge the baseball player needs no improvement. Judge the speechmaker has some room to grow. Both things can be true. Now let’s play ball.

  1. I guess he didn’t know that it was a Tony Robert’s orator contest. he gave an honest speech. Not some kind of phony John Wayne ra-ra BS speech that’s not his style to be fake. His speech is honest and sincere, and not fake. That’s what other players love about this guy is his sincerity and honesty towards them and other people. If you want to look for some dishonest fake speech, just look up are politicians speech’s during elections . I think the US has had enough of that . Lol
