Eagles free agency

Relax: The Eagles are one of four teams yet to sign an outside free agent and all four won at least 11 games last season

The Philadelphia Eagles have yet to sign any outside free agents. Free agency started less than 24 hours ago and I’m already getting texts saying the season is over. To those people I would just like to offer you a simple piece of advice. Grow up. And to anyone else getting antsy, take a deep breath. The Birds will be just fine.

There are four teams that haven’t signed an outside free agent yet: the Eagles, Seahawks, Broncos, and Jaguars. What do they all have in common? They all won at least 11 games last season, and two of them have won the Super Bowl within the last two years.

Everything will be alright, Eagles fans

I understand the frustration to a certain extent. Philly lost three defensive starters from last year — Jaelan Phillips, Nakobe Dean, and Reed Blankenship. They’re all good players, but none of them are irreplaceable. I would’ve loved to keep all three. But I also understand how the NFL works and that, by design, teams can’t stay super teams forever.

The Eagles have their work cut out for them, there’s no doubt about that. But if you think for a second that I’m doubting Howie and this front office, you’re wrong. Free agency is not where championship teams are built.

Do you really think the Raiders are suddenly going to become the NFL’s next super team because they signed eight players yesterday? No shot. They handed out big contracts to two off-ball linebackers. They gave Jalen Nailor $35 million — a guy who caught 29 passes last season.

The Eagles are the class of the NFL for a reason. They’ve built this roster through the NFL Draft, and that’s exactly what they’ll continue to do. It’s the most sustainable way to build a franchise, and Howie Roseman is damn good at it.

Let’s all just take a step back and look at the talent that’s still on the roster. It makes losing a few fringe starters feel a lot less catastrophic. I promise.
