Shorthanded Sixers go 2-0 on the back-to-back, beat the Blazers 109-103
The Sixers did something this weekend that nobody saw coming. They went 2-0 on a back-to-back without Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Kelly Oubre Jr., Paul George, Dalen Terry, Jabari Walker, and Johni Broome. Seven players out. Two wins. Philadelphia is now 37-31 on the season.
Sunday’s 109-103 win over the Trail Blazers at Xfinity Mobile Arena was messy at times and genuinely nerve-wracking at the end, but the bottom line is the Sixers won a game they had no business winning.
Quentin Grimes was the best player on the floor with 31 points, a new season high, giving him 60 points across the two-game weekend. Justin Edwards added 21 and has now put together three straight strong starts.
Quentin Grimes: 31 PTS | 3 STL | 8-8 FT
VJ Edgecombe had 18 points and 12 rebounds, his best rebounding game as a rookie. Andre Drummond came back from three games out with back spasms and grabbed 17 boards in 35 minutes.
The problems are still there. None of them disappear just because they won two games against the Nets and Blazers. Right now, this is a team that went 2-0 on a back-to-back missing seven players. Take the win and keep moving.
Up Next for the Sixers
A three-game road trip starts Tuesday night in Denver against the Nuggets. The schedule does not get easier but neither does this group’s resolve apparently.
