Eagles get validation as Jaylen Waddle trade reinforces AJ Brown’s massive value

The Eagles didn’t make a move this morning, but they might’ve benefited more than anyone in the league.

Thanks to the Denver Broncos acquiring Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins for a first-, third-, and fourth-round pick package, the wide receiver market just reset itself — and it lands exactly where the Eagles have been standing this entire time with AJ Brown.

And if you’ve been paying attention, that’s not an accident.

Eagles finally have proof their AJ Brown price isn’t crazy

For weeks, there’s been this ongoing debate about whether the Eagles were overvaluing AJ Brown in trade talks. The reported asking price has been steep, and naturally, people started questioning if Howie Roseman was just posturing.

Not anymore.

Jaylen Waddle — a very good player, a young player — just fetched:

  • A first-round pick (No. 30 overall)
  • A third-round pick
  • A fourth-round pick

That’s real value. That’s the market speaking.

And here’s the key part: AJ Brown is better.

He’s more physical, more dominant, more consistent, and frankly, more game-changing. Waddle might have age on his side, but if you’re trying to win football games in January, Brown is the guy you trust.

So if that’s what Waddle costs, what exactly do you think Brown should go for?

Because the Eagles clearly already know the answer.

Eagles leverage improves, even with one less buyer

Yes, the Broncos were rumored to be a potential landing spot for AJ Brown. That door is now closed, and in a vacuum, fewer bidders isn’t ideal.

But the trade-off here is worth it.

The Eagles lose one possible suitor, but they gain something more important: leverage backed by precedent.

This isn’t hypothetical anymore. There’s now a fresh, comparable deal on the board that supports exactly what the Eagles have been asking for.

Howie Roseman doesn’t have to negotiate from a place of theory. He can point to an actual transaction and say, “Start there, and then we’ll talk.”

That’s a much stronger position than anything they had a week ago.

Eagles are in no rush — and that’s the whole point

The most important part of all of this? The Eagles don’t have to do anything.

They’re not a rebuilding team looking to flip assets. They’re not desperate to clear cap space. They’re not backed into a corner.

They have AJ Brown under contract, in his prime, producing at an elite level.

So unless a team comes in and clearly wins the trade on paper — meaning they meet or exceed that Waddle-level package — there’s zero incentive to move him.

And that’s exactly how the Eagles are operating.

Hold the line. Set the price. Let the market come to you.

This entire situation has felt pretty simple from the start, even if people tried to complicate it.

The Eagles aren’t trying to trade AJ Brown. They’re willing to listen.

There’s a difference.

And now, with the Waddle deal in place, their stance looks even sharper. If a team wants to pry away one of the best wide receivers in football, it’s going to cost real assets. Premium assets. The kind that make you uncomfortable.

That’s the price of doing business.

And until someone is willing to pay it, the Eagles are perfectly fine keeping AJ Brown right where he is.
