Joel Embiid and Paul George return, Sixers demolish Bulls in historic fashion, 157-137 final

Wednesday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena, the Sixers beat the Bulls 157-137 in a performance that was historically absurd from start to finish.

Joel Embiid and Paul George both returned to the court and the difference was noticeable from tipoff. Embiid dropped 35 points, seven assists, and six rebounds in his first game since February 26th. It marked his 15th career game with those numbers, which puts him behind only Wilt Chamberlain and Allen Iverson in franchise history.

Joel Embiid: 28 MIN | 35 PTS | 7 AST | 6 REB

Paul George had 28 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals in fewer than 26 minutes in his first game since January 29th. He is 35 years old and became the oldest player in franchise history to post those numbers in a single game.

The two of them playing together again for the first time in months looked like exactly what this team has been waiting on and Wednesday was the proof of concept.

The Sixers have not scored 157 points since 1970. They made 22 threes, the most ever in a home game in franchise history. They had 34 assists against only eight turnovers, making them the first team in NBA history to score 157 or more while committing single-digit turnovers.

All five starters had at least four assists. Kyle Lowry hit a three with 25 seconds left on his 40th birthday and became the oldest player in Sixers history to make one, joining a list of 40-year-old three-point makers that includes Michael Jordan, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, and LeBron James.

Justin Edwards was plus-20 in 14 minutes off the bench. The Bulls put up 137 and STILL lost by 20. That is the kind of night it was.

9 games left in the regular season. The Sixers remain in the seventh seed, half a game behind Toronto in sixth and a game behind Atlanta in fifth. They hold a game lead over the Heat in eighth.

The standings are tight enough that every game from here matters but for the first time in weeks this team looks like what it was supposed to be when the season started.

Embiid is back. George is back. Tyrese Maxey and Kelly Oubre Jr will be returning soon.
