Trevor Zegras wins it in overtime, Flyers two points out of the Wild Card with 9 games remaining
The Flyers beat the Dallas Stars 2-1 in overtime Sunday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena and now, after weeks of likely denying it completely, the playoff race is very real. Two points out of both third place in the Metropolitan Division and the second wild card spot with nine games left. We’re in the end game now.
Trevor Zegras scored the winner in overtime, sending the squad to their 26th overtime game of the season. Travis Konecny gave them the lead in the second period on a power play goal with Matvei Michkov picking up an assist to reach 40 points on the season.
Travis Konecny puts Flyers up 1-0
Trevor Zegras OT Winner
Samuel Ersson is now 5-0-0 since the Olympic break. He has been one of the best stories on this roster during the most important stretch of the season and Sunday was another clean performance against one of the better teams in the West. Philly has allowed just 2.19 goals per game over their last 16.
Flyers by the numbers…
The Flyers came into Sunday after a huge road win in Detroit, 5-3 and then responded with a gritty OT win against Dallas at home. They are now 6-5-1 in the second game of back-to-back sets this season. Last year they were 1-10-2. Pretty wild change.
Philly is now 20-7-4 against Western Conference opponents this season, with seven wins over the top five teams in the West. They have one more Western Conference game left, April 11 in Winnipeg.
Porter Martone in the building
Six hours before puck drop on Sunday, the Flyers signed Porter Martone to his three-year entry-level contract.
Martone arrived at Xfinity Mobile Arena during the second period and went straight to the hockey operations suite to meet with management. There’s belief that Martone could make his NHL debut as early as Tuesday night in Washington.
The Flyers visit the Capitals on Tuesday at 7 PM ET on NBCSP.
Flyers are two points out. Nine games left.
