John Kruk delivered another all-timer after umpire was talking like he was inebriated on the mic
John Kruk and T-Mac, much like the rest of us, could not understand what the umpire said on the microphone during Tuesday night’s game against the Nationals. As usual, Kruk’s response was perfectly timed.

“And you’d think as many times as I’ve been inebriated… I’d be able to translate that for you.”
Incredible. The man is a national treasure and an absolute gift to Philadelphia sports broadcasting. Under normal circumstances that line gets its own post and a standing ovation.
These are not normal circumstances.
On second thought, they kind of are normal circumstances, but you wouldn’t know that judging by all of the Phillies fans in full panic-mode on social media. Either way, you get my point. The Phillies are 1-3. They have lost three straight games, the latest being Monday night to the Washington Nationals, a team picked by most of the baseball world to finish last in the NL East.
The offense has been invisible. The top of the lineup has been a ghost. Taijuan Walker got pummeled. Rob Thomson got ejected in the first inning on Monday. Dylan Moore pitched in mop-up relief.

It’s pretty bad. Maybe the umpire was actually drunk. Would you blame him?
Honestly, the Phillies themselves look like they have been inebriated out there. Drunk and disinterested on the baseball diamond. You need to be drunk to enjoy any of this right now. If you do not drink, watching this team play has somehow made you feel drunk anyway.
The way they are stumbling around Citizens Bank Park losing to the Nationals, everyone watching is at least feels inebriated. Kruk is always on the hot seat as the prime candidate to be inebriated already. The fans are drunk, just not a happy drunk. The players might actually be drunk too.
Point being, nobody looks very sober right now and it shows.
Look, I love John Kruk. I genuinely do. I am not blaming him for any of this. The jokes and quirky stories are part of what makes Phillies baseball worth watching. When this team is rolling and John Kruk is in the booth saying things like that it is the best entertainment in baseball.
When the Phillies are getting pummeled at home and losing to the Nationals the vibe is slightly different. The funny moments do not land the same way when the product on the field is making everyone miserable. That is just honest.
The Phillies will be fine. Get back on track, start hitting, and I will be back here writing happy posts about John Kruk being John Kruk every single night. That is a much better version of this season. Andrew Painter on the mound tonight. Ring it.
