Sidney Crosby’s egregious flop gets its own billboard on I-95, courtesy of Phans of Philly
Phans of Philly erected a billboard along I-95 North in South Philly on Thursday morning, featuring a photo of Sidney Crosby face-down on the ice next to a dictionary-style definition of the embellishment penalty he just earned in Game 3.
Poetry writ large.
The Phans of Philly billboard on I-95 mocking Sidney Crosby’s Game 3 flop:
For the uninitiated, Crosby picked up a 2-minute minor for embellishment in the first period of Game 3 after Flyers forward Garnet Hathaway was flagged for high-sticking. Crosby dramatically fell to the ground holding his face, and the refs decided to reward his theater work with a penalty of his own.
Garnet Hathaway gets 2 for a high stick on Crosby… then Sid gets called for embellishment and joins him in the box.

Enter Phans of Philly, our friends and longtime TLL partners in road-game tailgates and travel. Joe DiBiaggio teamed up with Monica McGrail at Keystone Outdoor Advertising to get the sign up within roughly 24 hours of the penalty, which is an absurd turnaround for outdoor advertising. The billboard will stay live through Sunday, which is more than enough time for every Philly commuter stuck on 95 to get a solid laugh in before they clock in.
Some national writers are saying the billboard should’ve gone up in Pittsburgh instead. I feel that misses the point entirely. This billboard is not for Penguins fans, although I don’t mind if it ruffles their feathers. It’s a victory lap for a city that has earned exactly one playoff hockey series worth of victory laps in the last eight years, and we are going to soak up every single minute of it.
Flyers go for the sweep Saturday night. Book your next tailgate with Phans of Philly and get to a road playoff game if the boys advance.
