Big Dom DiSandro voices ESPN’s PGA Championship hype video, and it’s not great

ESPN tapped Eagles security chief Big Dom DiSandro to voice their PGA Championship hype video ahead of the tournament at Aronimink Golf Club this week.

I love Big Dom. I really do. The man has been ejected from games, fined six figures twice, and somehow became the most famous head of security in the history of professional sports. Tip my cap. But brother, we need to talk.

I mean, it’s really not good at all. The delivery is flat, the pacing is off, and it sounds like someone handed him the script 45 minutes before they hit record. “My town has seen it all, huge moments made possible by men set to determine a new course.” Sure. Fine. But it needed some actual conviction behind it.

Here’s my bigger issue: Philly is loaded with celebrities who can actually talk into a microphone. We have Will Smith. Bradley Cooper. Tina Fey. The list goes on. Sure, Will Smith is probably busy getting cucked by his demon wife, but still. They landed on the Eagles’ chief security officer as their best option for a golf tournament promo?

Don’t get me wrong, Big Dom’s 15 minutes have been well-earned. The man deserves every sock collaboration and viral moment he gets. But at some point, you’re doing him a disservice by shoving him into a recording booth.

He’s supposed to be like Bigfoot. The aura came from his mystique. Now we know far too much and see him far too often for him to be a mythical piece of Philly lore in the way he once was.

Granted, they went with Philly energy. Just picked the wrong vessel for it.
