Trump Knicks Finals Game 3

Bad Luck Charm: Trump’s appearance at Knicks game derailed the first NBA Finals game at MSG in 27 years

I think Donald Trump, the 47th President of the United States, may have doomed the New York Knickerbockers.

As we all know, Trump was in attendance for Game 3 of the NBA Finals at MSG. We already covered the ridiculous get-in price for the game, which ranged from $9K to $11K depending on where you looked. That alone may have set the tone for how the night was going to go. At prices like that, I’m fairly confident there were no real Knicks fans in the building. Just a bunch of rich people trying to get a cool photo op.

You could tell pretty early on that the energy just wasn’t there.

The aristocrats aside, Trump’s attendance was the cherry on top. Any president attending any type of sporting event is a huge deal. In New York, for the first NBA Finals game at MSG in 27 years, the city was essentially on lockdown.

After 4 p.m., residents weren’t even allowed into the heart of Midtown unless they had tickets to the game. If you’ve ever been to New York, you know this is a nightmare scenario.

Firsthand accounts from people trying to get into the building only solidified how ridiculous this whole thing was. Ticket holders were told to arrive at least two hours before tipoff just to get through a TSA-style screening before entering MSG.

Every video I’ve seen is worse than the last. Here’s a quick glimpse at what getting into the Garden looked like.

Then we have the game itself, where Trump was loudly booed as soon as he was shown on the jumbotron. I know there are a few outlets trying to paint a different picture here, but I don’t know, man. This seems pretty conclusive to me.

Trump described it as “mostly cheers” after the game. I mean, of course that’s what he was going to say. You can hear whatever you want to hear, I suppose.

Just know it’s very strange to try and convince people that another man, who does not know you or care about you, wasn’t booed at a basketball game when there are videos like this on the internet. Just know that.

Once the game got underway, that was Trump’s signal to take a nap. Sleepy Donny has been a very sleepy boy as of late. I get it, he’s old and has the worst job on planet Earth. Doesn’t mean it isn’t hilarious.

The Knicks went on to lose 115-111, which, given the circumstances, felt like the obvious outcome. There was no way they were winning this game.

What happened after the loss can only be described as what everyone thinks Philadelphia is like. Knicks fans getting into brawls all over Midtown, chasing Spurs fans through the city streets. It was Escape from New York in real life.

We all know what the national discourse would be today if this was Philadelphia. I’m not even going to bother getting into it.

All in all, pretty disastrous moment for The Don. Is it as bad as increasing his net worth by $3 billion since 2024 or speed-running a recession because he’s fighting a war against Iran for Israel? Not quite. But for Knicks fans, this has to sting.

I mean, your team is on the precipice of winning a title, only for the President to come in and fuck the whole thing up.

Government coming in and screwing up a grassroots movement. A tale as old as time. Another win for the libertarians.
