Eagles miss out on waived wideout Matt Cole

Even after drafting DeVonta Smith and signing two rookie receivers to UDFA deals, the Eagles are still hunting for more wideouts. According to Field Yates, the Eagles put in a claim on the waiver wire for former 49ers’ receiver Matt Cole. Cole was a UDFA initially signed by the Miami Dolphins last season before being waived and picked up by the 49ers later in the year.
Philly was just second in line for Cole, but he was eventually grabbed by the New York Jets. There was also interest from the New Orleans Saints, who were the only other team to put in a claim. If the Eagles claimed Cole, he would be the 11th receiver on the roster, likely competing against other fringe players like Khalil Tate and John Hightower. Although Cole is mainly known as a wideout, he stood out in college on special teams, having been an excellent returner for McKendree.
