Eagles Kelly Green

Eagles Kelly Green uniforms could return as soon as 2022

Throwback jerseys could be on the way for the Philadelphia Eagles. Earlier today, the NFL announced they would be rescinding their one-shell rule for teams, allowing two helmets to be worn in a season. This change now allows for numerous teams to wear throwback uniforms starting in 2022. The rule was previously in place because the league wanted players to have one helmet that was safe and fit correctly. This announcement follows the recent jersey number change earlier this offseason.

Eagles owner Jeffery Lurie has been adamant about wanting a return to their longtime look. Back in 2019, Lurie hoped the NFL would remove their one-shell rule and said it was a high priority for the Eagles to bring back the Kelly Green. The last time Philly wore those colors was in 2010 for the 50th anniversary of their 1960 championship. Before that, you have to go all the way back to 1995.

The NFL has a rule with Nike that uniform changes need to be notified a year in advance, so don’t be shocked if the jerseys don’t return until 2023. Despite that, there is still a decent chance they are around in time for next season, but the window to notify the NFL is short. Regardless, this is a huge win-win for the franchise and the city of Philadelphia.
