DeVonta Smith wins Best College Athlete in Men’s Sports at the 2021 ESPYS

DeVonta Smith collected another piece of hardware last night before playing his first NFL snap, as the rookie took home the Best College Athlete in Men’s Sports award at the 2021 ESPYS. One of the most highlighted nights in sports, featuring the best players from all over the world in attendance.
The four candidates for the award alongside DeVonta Smith were Luka Garza (Basketball, Iowa State), Gloire Amanda (Soccer, Oregon State), Trevor Lawrence (Football, Clemson). All of these athletes had outstanding seasons and careers at their respective schools, but Smith would take the edge in the end.
Devonta’s resume was just too good not to give him this award. The newest Eagles #1 WR had an unbelievable career at Alabama, especially in his last season. 235 receptions, 3965 yards (16.9 YPC), and 46 touchdowns in four years at Alabama. His senior season was one of the most dominant year-long performances college football has even seen. Smith tallied 117 receptions, 1856 yards, 23 touchdowns, while adding the heisman trophy and a College Football Championship to his resume as well.
High hopes and praise has been coming to DeVonta from multiple hall of famers, the media, former players, and everybody in between. The Eagles got their wide receiver of the future on April 29th, and watching DeVonta Smith dominate the football field in Eagles green can’t come soon enough.
